Alvira L. Hummel, 91, of Wickenburg, Ariz., formerly of Grinnell and Tama, died Saturday, Oct. 31, at Wickenburg Extended Care, where she had lived since August.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Brandt, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers will be Mike Hotchkin, David Hummel, Todd James, Christopher McCue and Greg and Jeff Schultz. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
The daughter of Fred and Sophia Kautz Schultz, she was born May 30, 1907 in Tama County, where she was raised and educated. She was a 1926 graduate of Tama High School.
She was married to Kenneth D. Hummel July 19, 1932, in Deadwood, S.D., and the couple lived in Grinnell. She was employed in the general office of the Toledo Telephone Company for several years.
The couple moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1955, she was employed as a salesperson prior to her retirement in 1971. She moved to Wickenburg in 1974, where she was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Donald A. Hummel of Wickenburg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Orien and Clyde Schultz; and two sisters, Minnie Keifer and Julia Bailey.
