Funeral service of Charles A. Amidon, 85, Toledo pioneer who died Friday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O.W. Brahms, in Lincoln, was held Monday afternoon at the Henderson funeral home in Toledo. Mr. Amidon had been ill for several weeks, following a stroke. The service, at 2:30, was conducted by the Rev. Norman Frer King, minister of the Lincoln Community church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Omer Tweed and Mrs. E.K. Townsend, with accompaniment played by Mrs. Lester Kuhner. Selections used were "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Somebody Did a Golden Deed." Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Casket bearers were J.A. Abbe, O.A. Hennesy, Frank Hennesy, Ed. Stewart, Fred Herman and Roy Christensen. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Carl Mason and Mrs. Elsie Mason. Relatives from a distance who attended the service were Mrs. Hattie M. Amidon, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Mohler, Maxwell; Mrs. John Quackenbush, Madrid; Mrs. Lulu Endfield and John Earhart, Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Amidon and children, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Amidon and son Richard, Clarion; Mr. and Mrs. O.W.Brahms, Lincoln; Mrs. Edith Nichols and son Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nichols, Green Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Yettley, Marshalltown; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold McClure, Waverly.

Charles Amasa Amidon was born June 26, 1855, in Onandoga county, New York, near Syracuse, the son of Amasa C. and Almira Amidon. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 85 years, 1 month and 20 days. With his parents he came to Toledo in the spring of 1870. With the exception of one and one-half years when he lived at Larchwood, Iowa, he lived in Tama county, near Garwin and Toledo, engaged in farming and carpentry. The family moved from the farm west of Toledo in 1915, after which time he worked at the carpentry trade for several years. Mr. Amidon was united in marriage with Martha Elizabeth Mettlen, August 21, 1881. Four children, Mrs. Grace Sharp of Toledo, Walter of Omaha, Russell of Clarion, and Mrs. Gladys Brahms of Lincoln, were born to this union. Mrs. Amidon died June 11, 1926. Six grandchildren, a brother, Willis V. Amidon of Larchwood, and a large number of relatives and friends remain to mourn his passing. The grandchildren are Richard Amidon of Clarion; Rachel, Bernice, Charles, Martha and Elizabeth Amidon, of Omaha.
