Harriette C. Allen was born October 28, 1906 at Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Henry S. and Hattie May [Criley] Amidon. Harriette received her education at Toledo, graduating from Toledo High School in the class of 1925. She then continued her education at Washington University at St. Louis, Missouri, where she studied art. Harriette then returned to Toledo, where she worked as an apprentice at the Nina Wayne Grau Studio as a photographer and later owned and operated that studio. In 1937 she was married to Frank D. Allen and they later divorced. Harriette then made her home in Marshalltown until 1955 when she moved to Mission, Kansas. In 1963 she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she operated a photo studio until her retirement and she then returned to Toledo to make her home. On December 9, 1987, she entered the Bethesda Care Center in Toledo, where she died Tuesday, July 3, 1990, at the age of 83 years. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Soroptimist Club and the Business and Professional Women's Group.
