Mrs. Bruce Hayes Dies of Cancer at Age 71

Mrs. Bruce Hayes, 71, of Toledo, died of cancer Wednesday afternoon, August 25, 1965, at the Zigler Nursing Home in Tama where she had been a patient since Nov. 20, 1962. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at the Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hefty, pastor of the EUB church, and the Rev. Wendell Z. Henline, officiating. Mrs. Lonnie Boerm furnished music. Mrs. Carlton Wacha and Mrs. W.H. Gary Jr. cared for the flowers. Bearers were Carlton Wacha, W.H. Gary Jr., R.L. Morgan, L.T. Fisher, Leonard Zigler, and Dale Henle. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

As Cora Jenks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Jenks, she was born June 22, 1894, at Coon Rapids, Ia., and the family moved to Toledo where she was graduated from the high school. She also attended Leander Clark College in Toledo and Iowa State College at Ames for two years. She married Harry Amidon in 1915 and they made their home in Manson and Ida Grove. After her husband's death on Feb. 13, 1932, Mrs. Amidon and her children moved to Toledo to make their home. In November, 1943, she married Bruce Hayes and they made their home in Toledo.

She was a member of the Evangelical - U.B. Church and was active in its organizations. She was also a member of the PEO and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her widower; four children, Richard H. Amidon of Toledo, Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Bratton of Montebello, Calif., Robert Amidon of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Edward (Georgiana) Lyons of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Herrmann of Milwaukee, Wis., and Miss Jesse Jenks of Whitewater, Wis., a brother Clarence Jenks of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, two brothers, Harry and Frank Jenks and two sisters, Georgiana Jenks and Mrs. Frances Cleghorn.
