Edward F Kent, son of Mr and Mrs Moses Kent was born in Greencastle, Indiana, Jan 23, 1845 and died of heart disease at Haven, Tama County, Iowa on May 5, 1909 being therefore past 64 years of age.
When six years of age he moved with his parents to a farm near Brooklyn, Poweshiek County, Iowa where he received his education in the public school and grew to manhood. In the year of 1865 he was united in marriage to Polly Spaulding. To this union two sons were born.
Mr & Mrs Kent lived in the vicinity of Brooklyn for eighteen years and then moved to a farm near Haven in 1883. The family relocated to Victor, Iowa for five years then moved back to Haven to run the store. Edward was one of the men who helped build the fence around the Haven cemetery in 1907.
Mr Kent was a man who was always good and kind to everyone and especially to his family. He was converted and united with the ME church at Haven Sept 1, 1895 under the pastorage of Rev Young. For the past five years his health has been failing but death came very sudden and unexpected.
Just a few days before his death he uttered these words, “I am ready to go, death has no terror for me.” He has gone to a land from whence no traveler returneth.
He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, two sons – Thomas H of Tama Iowa, Charles E of Haven Iowa and an adopted daughter, Flora A of Haven, Iowa. Also, Alba Abbott, who has made his home with the family for eight years, four brothers and two sisters, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Haven Church conducted by Rev E C Wandby. Music was furnished by Thos Cram, Mrs S Cobb, Clara Whitmore, Miss M Showen, Mrs G Stone and Frank Stone.
The burial service was in charge of IOOF Lodge, No 192 of Victor of which Mr Kent had long been a member. Interment was made in Haven cemetery.
Pall Bearers were Geo Stone, J Bagenstos, Chas Vermace, Jim Norton, G B Fullmer and Chas Groff.

There was also a Memorial card with this message & poem:
In Loving Remembrance of Edward F. Kent
Born Jan 23, 1845
Died May 5, 1909
Age 64 yrs, 3 months, 13 days

Gone But Not Forgotten
Tis hard to break the tender cord
When love has bound the heart
Tis hard, so hard to speak the words,
“We must forever part”
Dearest loved one, we must lay thee
In the peaceful grave’s embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished
Til we see thy heavenly face.
