Vera L. Cutshall, 90, of Mount Pleasant, S.C, formerly of Marshalltown, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the Charleston Hospice Center, Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at First United Methodist Church, 202 West Main Street, Marshalltown, with Reverend Dale Batcheler officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in the Crystal Township Cemetery, rural Garwin.

Born on Nov. 17, 1917, in Garwin, she is the daughter of Charles C. and Emma (Wiese) Frahm. She was raised and educated in Garwin. She was married to Clarence R. Hale on Feb. 10, 1937, who preceded her in death in 1942. She married Homer W. Cutshall on Jan. 2, 1947, in Traer. They farmed north of Toledo from 1948-1967, where she raised her family, tended a large garden, raised thousands of chickens through the years, and was active in her church.

They retired from farming and moved to Marshalltown in 1967. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marshalltown and her life continued to revolve around her church and family. She was a devoted homemaker and really enjoyed hosting family birthday and holiday celebrations. She moved to Mount Pleasant, in June of 2002, to be near one of her daughters. She resided at Sweetgrass Village Assisted Living where she made many friends and remained actively involved in numerous activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Homer Cutshall in April 2001; a son-in-law, William Connell; and her sister, LaRue M. Smith in Dec. 2007.

She is survived by a daughter, Lona J. Hale Connell, of Micanopy, Fla; a daughter, LaVon E. Cutshall McNaughton (and her husband, Richard) of Mount Pleasant, S.C; a son, Dennis H. Cutshall, of Honey Creek, Iowa; a brother, Leland C. Frahm, of Marshalltown; and six grandchildren: Valerie Cutshall, Karen Cutshall, Michelle Connell Loper and her husband Errol, Deborah, Shirley, and Joshua Connell; and one great grandson, Jordon Loper.

A memorial fund has been established.*
