TAMA-Dorothy Eleanor Dilley, age 87, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Tama died Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24 from 4 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Dorothy was born on April 26, 1920 in Thor, Iowa, the daughter of Julius and Alice (Olson) Hanson. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1936. Dorothy then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years. She was united in marriage to Ray E. Dilley on December 24, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Dorothy graduated from Upper Iowa in Fayette in 1960. She retired from teaching primary grades in the South Tama Schools in 1982. Dorothy was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church, U.M.W., Delta Kappa Gamma, N.E.A., Oak Hill Cemetery Association, and Tama American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and playing cards. She enjoyed having coffee with friends and watching golf and baseball on T.V., especially the Chicago Cubs. Until one of her eyes failed, Dorothy also enjoyed reading. She loved making bars and cookies as well as entertaining family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray E. Dilley in 1993; one sister, Marjorie Bennett; one brother, Ralph Hanson; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Schultz.
Survivors include five children, Darlene Bolton of Fountain Valley, CA, Dennis R. (Laurie) Dilley of Janesville, Janeen K. (Robert) Hubbell of Cedar Falls, Geri L. (Steve) Becker of Monona, and Jacki J. Pansegrau of Redfield; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma (Jim) Brody of Waterloo; and one brother, Marvin (LaVonne) Hanson of Kansas City, MO.
A memorial fund has been established.
