OBITUARY

Martha "Madge" Thomas, 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 1999 in her home at Methwick Retirement Community, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Madge was born on November 4, 1907 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Frank Craig Dickey and Marrione O. Peterson Dickey. She graduated from Traer High School and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, IA.

On November 30, 1927, she married John Kenneth Stark. He died in 1956. Madge then married Dr. Hoyt W. Thomas on June 14, 1970. He also preceded her in death in 1993.

Madge had worked as a Residence Director at Iowa State University in Ames from 1957-1970. She was a member of ST. Paul's Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.

Madge devoted most of her life to her family. She will be remembered by her sense of humor and the "funnies" that she told us.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, an infant daughter, Paula in 1931, her son, Dr. Craig Dickey Stark in 1980, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Dickey and Mildred Thomas.

She is survived by 4 grandchildren; James Stark of Farmington Hills, MI, Jennifer (Stark) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Carrie (Stark) Douglas of Roswell, GA and John Stark of Pheonix, AZ; a daughter-in-law Joan (Stark) Laughrige of Ottumwa; 2 step-children; David Thomas and Diana Bendorf; 3 step-grandchildren Michael Thomas, Stephanie (Thomas) Brennan & Matthew Bendorf; 4 great-grandchildren Lucas, Katie & Kyle Johnson and Lauren Douglas; & 3 step-great-grandchildren and a sister Maxine.
