OBITUARY

Michael Alan Stoakes was born on March 30, 1971 at Waterloo, lA, the son of Edward and Marlys (Nachazel) Stoakes. Mike graduated from North Tama High School in 1989 and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College, receiving a degree in Architectural Drafting.

On May 23, 1992 he was united in marriage to Kristie Edwards. They made their home in rural Traer and Mike was employed in the family business, Van's Meat Locker in Dysart.

In free moments Mike enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends. He and Kristie enjoyed doing remodeling in their home and traveling to places like Hawaii. Mike enjoyed hiking, bicycling and riding his dirt bike. Mike was thankful for the many opportunities in his life.

During his four and a half years' battle with cancer he treasured the time spent with Kristie and just this past week was able to fulfill a life long dream. He went to Green Bay, WI, where he visited the Hall of Fame, Lambeau Field, met a Packer player and attended Sunday's game.

Mike's death came on the following Tuesday, Sept 16, 1997 at the age of 26 years. Mike is survived by his wife Kristie, his parents: Edward & Marlys Stoakes, his brother, James & wife Sherri Stoakes of Traer, his sister Angela and her husband Richard McGuire of Madison, WI, his grandparents Vernetta Stoakes and Milo & Lillian Nachazel all of Traer, and two nieces and nephews.
