Dorothy Voelschow Ridenour, 77, died Sunday, may 9, 1999, in her home after an extended illness. Memorial services: 1 pm Wednesday, Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton, with George Garwood Sr as eulogist. Private burial will be in Delaware, Iowa, at a later date. Friends may call from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Himschoot and husband Bob Sr of Dillingham, AR and Nancy Garwood and husband George Jr of Columbus, OH; a son, Ted Ridenour and wife Jean of Vinton; grandchildren: Bob Himschoot Jr and wife Barbara of Dillingham, AR, Rebecca Himschoot and husband Edgar Thiesen of Kuwait, Annette Brown and husband David of Salem, OR, Alesia Ridenour of Webster City, Donald Garwood and wife Michelle of Westland, Mich., Dennis Garwood of Houston and Daniel Garwood of Detroit; great-grandchildren: Alexander and Elizabeth Himschoot, Ashli and Baily Garwood and Austin Brown and Taylor Paige; a sister, Mildred Pennekamp of Dickeyville, Wis.; and a brother, Orrin Lenstra of Menomonie, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands and brothers, Chris and Butch Lenstra.

She was born Nov. 20, 1921, near Dubuque, to Chris and Elizabeth Vogt Lenstra, and married Jack Voelschow. They lived in Masonville. He died in July 1964. Dorothy moved to Cedar Rapids, where she met James R. Ridenour. They married Jan. 13, 1971, in Vinton, where they lived until Jim's death on Feb. 10, 1985. For 15 years she served as dietary supervisor at the Vinton Lutheran Home before her retirement. She loved playing cards and enjoyed spending time at the senior citizens center.

Following the public memorial service, the family will remain at the funeral home to visit with those in attendance.

A memorial fund has been established.
