OBITUARY

Private family graveside services for Marlys Sealock, 77, of Traer, will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

She died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, in her home of cancer.

Marlys Maxine (Mason) Sealock was born on a farm north of Dysart on Nov. 25, 1920, the daughter of Herbert and Lillian (Anders) Mason.

At the age of one year her family moved to a farm southeast of Clutier where she attended country school. In 1934 her family moved north of Clutier and Marlys graduated from Clutier High School in the Class of 1938.

She then entered nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, completing two years of training.

On Jan. 8, 1941, she was united in marriage to Sheryl Sealock at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. For two years the couple lived in Traer above the Cozy Lunch Cafe, which they operated. They then moved to a farm three miles north of Clutier and farmed until 1970.

Marlys and Sheryl then returned to Traer where she helped Sheryl in his seed corn business.

Sheryl died May 30, 1976, and in 1977 Marlys moved to Des Moines and worked for Preferred Risk Insurance Company until her retirement and return to Traer in 1985.

Her hobbies included cooking, baking, dancing and working in the fields and being outdoors when they lived on the farm.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents, a great-grandson in 1990, and a personal friend, Jack Hinshaw, in 1991.

She is survived by one son, Mervin of Clutier; two daughters, Charlene Kokotan of Waterloo and Rosemary Vaughn of Twin Falls, ID; one sister, Lois McClung of Woodward, OK; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
