OBITUARY

Funeral services for Dorothy E. Dunlavey, 96, of Traer, were held Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at the Traer United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Sheryl Campbell. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. She died Friday, Sept 15, 2000 at Sunrise Hill Care & Rehab Center in Traer following a short illness.

Casket bearers were Martin Kucera, Allen Cannon, Max Morrison, Bruce Morrison, Lyle Bitcon and Leland Whannel.

Floral tributes were handled by April Kucera, Marge Magnussen, Jack Russell and Lois Pressley. Special music for the service was provided by Mike Campbell, organist.

Dorothy Ellen Dunlavey was born northwest of Traer July 27, 1904. She was one of five children born to Fred B. and Annabelle (Grapes) Wood. Dorothy received her education in country school and at Traer High School.

She was united in marriage to Donald Dunlavey on Dec. 16, 1926 at Waterloo, IA. The couple made their home in Traer all their married life.

In free moments Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafts and dressing dolls. She also worked in the community grocery store and worked with her son at Bun and Cue Cafe. For many years she served as a babysitter and answered phones at the funeral home for the Overtons.

While she was able, Dorothy was a member of the ladies Country Club, the Traer United Methodist Church and Methodist Women. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the Traer United Methodist Church.

Following her husband's death in 1969, Dorothy continued to make her home in Traer and in more recent years was a resident at Sunrise Hill Care & Rehab Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donald; one granddaughter, Nancy and three brothers, Merrill, Marvin and Donald.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Wayne and his wife, JoAnn Dunlavey of Traer; one grandson, Rodney of Traer; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Gleneva Hansen.

Overton Family Funeral Home-Traer was in charge of arrangements.
