Obituary from the Toledo Chronicle, Toledo, Iowa, November, 1931:
"GEORGE RAINES

George Raines, oldest son of George and Lorena Raines, was born January 6, 1849 near Canandaigua, New York. He passed away at Hoquiam, Washington at the age of 83 years. At the age of seven with his mother and sister Alice, he came to Toledo, Iowa where the father had already established a home. The father soon accepted a call into the ministry and for a number of years the family lived in various towns in the Upper Iowa conference. About the year 1877 the subject of this sketch entered into the grain business in Center Point. On January 2, 1881, he was united in marriage to Hattie A. Romig, daughter of a well known Center Point family. The children of this union are George, Robert C., Ella, Ruth and John Vernon, who were all present at the funeral except Mrs. Ruth Stevens of Hoquiam, Washington, who had given her father most loving care for the past ten years; the wife and mother having passed away twelve years ago. The deceased was the eldest of six children. Two sisters preceded him in death (Lillias Raines and Lorena Swearingen). He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Alice Davies of Iowa City, Mrs. Mary Vogel of Toledo, Ohio, and one brother, Robert B. Raines, of Independence, Iowa. For more than 65 years, Mr. Raines was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, participating in all its activities, particularly in its music, in which he was very much interested, possessing as he did a most unusual voice.

The funeral was held in the Methodist Church at Center Point Tuesday afternoon, November 24, 1931. His nephew, Rev. Dr. Richard C. Raines, of Minneapolis, offered prayer. Rev. Floyd H. Weed, of Independence read scripture selections and Rev. Floyd R. Maynard, of the local Methodist church, delivered the sermon. Dr. Raines read the burial service at the grave in Center Point Cemetery. Those from out of town present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Raines of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Robert Raines, Mitchell, South Dakota; Mrs. Ella Madden, Canton, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Raines, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. John P. Vogel (Mary), Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Alice (Raines) Davies, Iowa City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Raines and daughter, Miss Ruth, of Independence, Iowa; Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Haberle, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Carr, Chicago; Dr. and Mrs. Richard C. Raines, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Romig and daughter, Center Point; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bliss, Cedar Rapids, and James Wells, Independence."
