Son of James U. and Ruby E. Ryan.

Enlisted Jul 4, 1918 at Marshalltown, IA; first entered Fort Logan; transferred to Presidio, Fort Winfield Scott, Camp Upton, Camp Merritt, Camp Dix and Camp Dodge; first entered 5th Co., Fort Logan.

Mustered out of Battery F, 40th Reg., Heavy Artillery, January 4, 1919.
