Born March 7, 1894 in Garwin, IA.

Son of Charles Henry and Nellie Mae Filer.

Entered service Sep 20, 1917.

Entered Camp Dodge; transferred to Camp Cody, Camp Dix and Camp Merritt; first entered Co. I, 133rd Inf.

Mustered out Feb 25, 1919 from Co. D, 49th Inf., 163rd D. Brig.

In France Oct 26, 1918. Was wounded. Lost fourth finger of left hand. 49th Inf. was decorated for bravery.
