Son of Adolph and Christina Engel.

Enlisted May 17, 1917 at Marshalltown; entered Camp Baker; first entered Co. A, 2nd Engrs.

Mustered out Aug 14, 1919 from Co. A, 2nd Engrs.

In France Oct 6, 1917; member of Co. A, 2nd Engrs., 2nd Div. In battles of Vaux and Chateau Thierry. Wounded right thigh, hand, arms and temple, in the battle of Chateau Thierry. Both Division and Regiment were decorated.

Sergeant.
