BATES, Josiah Barton

Born Jun 16, 1885, at Toledo, IA.

Son of J. H. and Mary A. Bates.

Enlisted Nov 30, 1917, at Marshalltown, IA.

Entered Fort Logan; transferred to Camp Green, Camp Merritt; first entered Co. D, 4th US Regular Army Engineers.

In France May 12, 1918; member of Co. D, 4th US Reg. Army Engineers; took part in the battles of Aisne, Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne; entered Germany with Army of Occupation; decorated for bravery; 4 stars for 4 fronts; this company, regiment and division cited for bravery.

Mustered out Aug 4, 1918 from Co. D, 4th US Regular Army Enigneers.

Corporal.
