Born May 29, 1887 in Clinton County, IA.
Son of William and Minnie Bartling.
Enlisted May 12, 1917 at Marshalltown, IA.
Entered Camp Baker; transferred to American University Grounds, Washington DC; first entered Co. A, 2nd Engineers.
Mustered out Aug 14, 1919 from Co. A, 2nd Engineers.
In France Oct 2, 1917; member of Co. S, 2nd Engineers, 2nd Div. In battles of Chateau Thierry, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Salient, Blanc Mont, Meuse-Argonne. Regimental colors were decorated with Croix de Guerre.
Corporal.
