Sent into combat on Oct 10, 1944 with Mine Div. 14, 7th Fleet

Engagements: Philippine Campaign, Oct 10, 1944; Okinawa, May 7, 1945

Medals-Ribbons: Philippine Campaign, 1 Star; Asiatic-Pacific, 3 Stars, American Theater, Victory

Returned to US: Shanghai, Dec 8, 1945; Seattle, WA, Jan 12, 1946

Discharged: Minneapolis, MN on Jan 16, 1946. Rating: EM3/c

Months in Service: In US, 8; overseas, 16

The USS Velocity served with 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th Fleets. It steamed over 100,000 miles under wartime conditions; swept 194 mines, sank 53 floating mines by gunfire, went to the assistance of ships and aircraft, yet in spite of all the activity in enemy waters, never suffered damage to herself, and only two minor personnel casualties occurred.
