THOMAS HOLMES DIED THURSDAY AT MASON CITY

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Collins Methodist Episcopal church for Thomas Holmes, a pioneer of the community, who passed away last Thursday at his home at Mason City. The services were in charge of the Rev. John Adamson, pastor of the local church. Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Obiturary

Thomas Holmes was born in Yorkshire, England, December 12, 1856, and came in this country with his parents while a child, first to the state of Illinois and then to Iowa, locating on the prairies of this new state about three miles southwest of Collins, where he grew to manhood amidst the early pioneers. His life has been largely devoted to farming and the stone-mason's trade until the past few years, during which he has been in retirement from his labors at Mason City, Ia., where he departed this life April 16, 1931.

He leaves surviving his widow residing at Mason City, Ia.; three children, Mrs. Lewis G. Pulis of Des Moines, Mrs. Arthur Donaghy of Mason city, and Arthur Holmes of Riverside, Calif.; eight grandchildren ; two sisters, Mrs. Charles McQuiston of Collins and Mrs. Henry Warrell of Maxwell; and five brothers, William H. Holmes, George Holmes and Walter Holmes, all of Collins, David Holmes of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John Holmes of Des Moines.

Mr. Holmes was a man of sterling qualities and solid parts, a congenial spirit, a kind and loving husband and a devoted father; loved by all; and in his dealings with his fellow man always kind and considerate and performed to the full his part. His going will be missed by all who knew him and the vacancy left will be sorely felt by his many relatives.
