THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 18, 2006.

Alice M. Bentley, 91, Ames, died on Feb. 16, 2006, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames with Pastors Lynn Elrod and Gary Selof officiating. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery in Boone.

Alice was born to James and Alice Hunter on July 14, 1914, in Boone County. She attended school in Scotland and graduated from Boone High School in 1932. She married Gilbert Bentley Sr. on Feb. 16, 1935, in her parents' home. She was a lifelong resident of Boone County. She retired in 1979 from the Iowa DOT.

She was an active member of the Gilbert Evangelical Free Church. She volunteered at the Gilbert School and the Mary Greeley Hospitality Shop. She loved to travel, and particularly enjoyed the Iowa State Fair.

Alice is survived by her son, Gilbert (Charlotte) Bentley Jr. of Ames; daughters, Janice (Harry) Kalbach of Menlo, Roberta (Leland) Wright of Bettendorf and Marion (Gary) Johnson of Story City; grandchildren, Terry (June) Johnson of Melba, Idaho, Kimberly (Phil) Wingert of Coralville, Kurt Kalbach of Menlo, Craig (Gail) Johnson of Jewell, Colleen Kalbach of Des Moines, Paul (Sue) Johnson of Ellsworth, Julia Kalbach of Des Moines, Brian (Kristal) Johnson of Story City and Grant Bentley of Ames; great grandchildren, Tyler, Jessie, Taylor, Luke, Erin, Megan, Bentley and Hunter; sisters, Marion Hunter of Sacramento, Calif. and Lorna (Jim) Youll of Sac City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert; infant daughter, Alice Jean; and brothers, Ed, Matthew and Jim Hunter.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.on Sunday, February 19, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Gilbert Evangelical Free Church.

Stevens Memorial Chapel of Ames is assisting Alice's family with arrangements.
