THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 18, 2006.

Betty Maxine Nelson, 84, of Nevada, died on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Betty was born on April 29, 1921, in Nevada, to Nathaniel and Hazel (Peterson) Nutty. She was a 1939 graduate of Nevada High School. Betty married Richard F. Nelson on January 11, 1941 in Los Angeles, Calif. Betty was a secretary/bookkeeper for Slemmons Brothers and Weuve Hansen. In 1969, she went to work for Iowa Electric Light and Power. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Betty loved her family and enjoyed gardening.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Dan) Newman of Nevada; three grandchildren, Kevin McDaniel, Jeff McDaniel and Kari Workman; and two great grandchildren, Macie McDaniel and Jacob McDaniel; and nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, on May 14, 1958, a sister, Miriam, and a brother, Gene.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, with the family present at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in Betty's name for Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
