NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 16, 2006.

John Wesley Greenig, 83 of Nevada died on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were on Tuesday, February 14 at the Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa.

John was born on September 28, 1922 in Kasota, Minnesota to William and Birdie (Flum) Greenig. He married Alice Ann Seifert on May 5, 1944 in North Mankato, Minnesota. John retired in 1998 as a crane operator for Hallett Construction. He had been a resident of Nevada, Iowa since 1995. John and Alice had also lived in Lakeview, Iowa and Mankato, Minnesota. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, roller skating, and driving race cars.

John is survived by his daughter, Carol (Joe) Shay of Nevada; 3 granddaughters, Tammy Amundson of Marshalltown, Julie Zahnd of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Dawn Pieper of Eldora; 6 great grandchildren, Brandon John Crossman, Amanda Zahnd, Marriah Lyon, Brooklyn Amundson, Chantel Sievers and Breanna Sievers; and a brother, Lewis Greenig of Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on November 13, 1997, a brother Carl Greenig, and a sister Margaret Greenig.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Mortuary.

A memorial fund has been established in John's name for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with John's arrangements.
