Valborg "Valie" McKinney, 90, longtime Colo resident, died late Friday night, February 3rd, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Zearing where she has resided since last year. Her death came peacefully at 11:45 p.m., the night prior to her 61st anniversary.
Funeral services and a celebration of her life were held Tuesday, February 7th, at the Colo United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Roth officiating. She was laid to rest in the Colo Cemetery. Born Valborg Rattenborg on September 26th, 1915, at Elk Horn, Iowa, she was the daughter of Christian and Gudren Rattenborg. She received her education in the country schools around Elk Horn and later moved to Atlantic, Iowa where she did housecleaning.
On February 4th, 1945, she was united in marriage to Vernon McKinney in Atlantic, Iowa. They farmed near Colo where she was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, the ladies aid of the church and the Dalton Aid. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, embroidery, flowers and plants, farming with her husband and dancing in her younger years.
Left to celebrate her life are her four children; David (Aileen) McKinney of State Center, Dennis (Virginia) McKinney of Ames, Julie (Dwight) Wengert of State Center and Karen (Bill) Jubeck of Peosta, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In death she has rejoined her husband, her parents and her siblings; Harry, Milo, Clarence, Anna, William and Hans.
