Darwin Gene Twedt, 69 of rural Nevada died on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services were Tuesday, January 24 at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland with Rev. Rachael Hanson officiating. Burial, with military rites, followed in the Roland Cemetery.
Darwin was born on July 14, 1936 on the family farm northwest of McCallsburg to Hiram C. and Gertie C. (Arneson) Twedt. He attended grade school in McCallsburg and graduated from Roland High School. He also graduated from Ellsworth Junior College and attended NW Missouri State. Darwin served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. On August 27, 1960, he married Roberta Karen Thompson in Radcliffe. Darwin retired in 1999 as a warehouse man for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland and American Legion Post #334 in McCallsburg. He enjoyed the outdoors, sports and John Deere tractors.
Darwin is survived by his wife Roberta Karen (Thompson) Twedt of rural Nevada; 3 sons and their families, Douglas Gene Twedt and his wife Deborah and children Samantha and Allison of Walker, Richard Allen Twedt and his wife Stacey and children Madison and Nathan of Marion, and Trenton Neal Twedt and his wife Jennifer and children Garret and Cora of Roland; 3 brothers, Alvin "Bud" Twedt of McCallsburg, Harlan Twedt of Lonoke, Arkansas, Paul Twedt of Ames; 4 sisters, Olive Sampson of Story City, Shirley Woster of McCallsburg, Charlotte Frandsen of Apopka, Florida, and Mary Tjelmeland of Bloomington, IL; 2 Sisters-in-law, Diane Sanders of Ellsworth and Barbara Thompson of Tuttle, OK; 4 Brothers-in-law, Gary Thompson of Garden City, Brian Thompson of Williamsburg, Curtis Thompson of Ankeny and Paul Thompson of Garden City.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established in Darwin's name. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada was entrusted with Darwin's arrangements.
