THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, January 13, 2006.

Clarence J. Shepard, 63, of Ankeny and more recently of the Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died there early Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Center Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hirsch Chizever officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

He was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Marshalltown, the son of Emery and Mabel Dee Shepard. Raised and educated in Albion and Marshalltown, he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960. He began working at the Iowa State University as a custodian and was employed there for 34 years. The past several years, he was the custodian for the president of the university's office. He retired in 2000 due to ill health. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ankeny.

He married Madelyn Vandeharr May 15, 1993, in Ankeny. She preceded him in death in November 1993.

He is survived by one daughter, Angela, of La Crosse, Wis., two brothers, Gene (Linda) Shepard of Lewisville, Texas, and Dale (Deb) Shepard of Marshalltown; two sisters, Marty, Mrs. Dick Rhodes of Marshalltown and Joyce, Mrs. Mark Ankrum of Hubbard. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his grandparents.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 tonight at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home, with the family being present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.

Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown is in charge of arrangements.
