THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 4, 2006.

Askel J. Sampson, 92, of Story City, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.

Askel was born Aug. 8, 1914, to John and Jenny (Helland) Sampson. He married Olive H. Twedt Sept. 28, 1941. He worked at Iowa State University and was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.

He was survived by his wife, Olive of Story City; three sons, Dean (Judy) of Ames, Wayne (Julane) of Salisbury, N.C., and Gary (Linda) of Des Moines; one daughter, Linda (Glen) Gillis of Sun City, Ariz.; one sister, Iva Nordskog; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarion and Milo; and three sisters, Herma Fisher, Cleo Ballard and Louella Jacobson.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Manor or Elim Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Soderstrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
