THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 4, 2006.

Deborah L. Oliver, 56, of Ames died Monday, Jan. 2, in her home of complications of cancer. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday Jan. 7, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.

Deb was born in Ithaca, N.Y., the daughter of Donald and Lucile Eastman, who preceded her in death. She attended college in Syracuse, N.Y., where she met and married her husband, David Oliver. The couple then moved to New Haven, Conn., where her children were born, then to Moscow, Idaho, where she worked in an accounting firm before moving to Ames.

She loved to travel and was passionate about peace and hunger issues. She worked in the study abroad office at Iowa State University, sending ISU students to study overseas. She also was a leader in the Ames Friends of International Women, supporting women visitors to the university community. She loved books, classical music, the arts, the out of doors and her family place on the coast of Maine.

She is survived by her husband, David Oliver; one son, Jonathan Oliver of Ames; one daughter, Elizabeth Oliver of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Cynthia Heller of Syosset, N.Y., and Linda Eastman of Biddeford, Maine; and one brother, David Eastman of Ithaca, N.Y.

She was a loving mother, wife and friend to many, and has touched many lives of people all over the country. She will be greatly missed.
