Barbara Conkin, 66, who died Thursday evening, Sept. 28 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Maddick officiating. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery.
Barbara K. (Bobbie) Conkin was born in Jewell the only child to Ben C. and Izetta Henningsen Iverson on Sept. 24, 1934. She graduated from the Webster City High School in May of 1952. She received her teaching degree from Simpson College at Indianola in 1954.
On August 17, 1957, she was united in marriage to Duane Conkin at the Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. To this marriage were born two children, Laurie (Conkin) Benson and Gary Conkin.
Bobbie received her B.A. from Drake University in 1967 and went back to teaching at West Marshall Elementary where she had began in 1954. She had began her teaching career in Elsworth. She taught until 1990 when she retired. She we diagnosed with Lung Cancer in May of 1999.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had served 18 years on the Guteknust Library Board. She loved to read, travel, and do crafts but her greatest joy was found in her family, especially her five grandchildren.
Bobbie is survived by her loving husband, Duane of 43 years, a daughter, Valaurie and husband Dennis Benson and children, Andrew, Joshua, and Rebekah of Danbury; a son, Gary and wife, Cathy and children, Jacob and Hannah of Cedar Rapids.
She is preceded in death by her parents in 1976.
