Richard E Alleman, 84, of Slater, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Madrid Home. Services will be at 10:30 Saturday, Dec. 17, at United Church of Christ in Alleman. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

Richard Eugene Alleman, 84, of rural Slater, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Madrid Nursing Home, where he was recuperating from a broken hip. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman.

Rich was born Sept. 19, 1921, to Ben and Ida (Lehman) Alleman. He farmed near Alleman all of his life until he retired. He was a seed salesman for Pioneer and Garst Seed Companies for more than 30 years. He married Doris Ruth Fausch Oct. 17, 1942. She died March 28, 1989. He married Verda Alleman Aug. 26, 1990.

He was a life-long member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman where he was baptized and confirmed, sang in the church choir since confirmation, served on the church board and as Sunday School superintendent. He also was a 4-H leader and served on the Polk County Extension Council. He served as a Lincoln Township Trustee for 41 years.

He is survived by his second wife, Verda; two sons, Ron (Marcia) of Ankeny and Jim, (Kathy) of Hewitt, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Sue Alleman of Des Moines, two stepsons, Bruce Alleman of Sheldahl and Brian (Brenda) Alleman of Slater, two stepdaughters, Sherry (Randy) Fix of Altoona and Rhonda (Steve) Claussen of Cambridge; two sisters, Ethel Wells of Johnston and Evelyn (Addison) Allen of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Robert (Barney) and wife JoAnn of Ankeny; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; one son, Victor; and two brothers, Lloyd and Wilbur.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Salem United Church of Christ.
