THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, December 10, 2005.

Mildred P. Stevenson, 96, longtime Colo resident, died Thursday, Dec. 8, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Colo United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Colo Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.
Mildred Pearl Stevenson was born March 26, 1909, near Mount Ayr to Alpha L. and Mary Evaline (Long) Spencer. She grew up in and around Mount Ayr, graduating from Mount Ayr High School in 1926.
Mildred married Robert L. Stevenson Aug. 20, 1928, in Eldora. After their marriage, she taught school for a short time in southern Iowa while Robert attended Iowa State College. She was an early switchboard operator, worked for the P&W grocery store and was site manager for the senior citizens meals. Mildred lived in Colo for 74 years and moved to Story City in 2001. She was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, Rebecca Circle and BF&T Club. She loved to sew, crochet, play cards and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was loved and treasured by many and will be remembered for her sense of humor.
Mildred is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Forest) Ellson, and a son, Bob (Miriam) Stevenson, all of Ames; 10 grandchildren, Terri (Rick) Fryar of Longmont, Colo., Mike (Kristine) Ellson of Center Point, Mark (Karen) Ellson of Woodbury, Minn., Steve (Janice) Cummings of Mediapolis, Ron Cummings of Colo, Sharon (Bob) Wilson of Colo, Mary (Doug) Eley of Zearing, DeAnne Luke of Garden City, Rob (Stephanie) Stevenson of Aurora, Ill., and Roy Stevenson of Boston; 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 12, 1994; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Ray Cummings; a granddaughter, Marcy Ellson; twin great-grandsons, Nathan and Jason Cummings; three brothers, Percy, Cecil and Merritt Spencer; and three sisters, Mamie, Madge and Marie.
Memorials may be directed to the Colo United Methodist Church or Bethany Manor in Story City.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Mildred's arrangements.
