Owen Keith McVey, 86, of Nevada, died Wednesday, March 29, 2005, at Story County Hospital in Nevada. Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the United Methodist Church in Slater, with Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the Nevada Cemetery.

Owen Keith McVey was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Jefferson County, the son of James Whitcomb and Mabel Lillian (Stanfield) McVey. On Oct. 2, 1943, he married Virginia Russell in Wapello County. He served in the Coast Guard with a Seaman rank. He was a farmer from 1943 to 1969, and then was employed by Iowa State University ROTC Supply until his retirement in 1981. He has lived in Slater since 1970.

He survived by his four sons, Ron (Karen) of Maxwell, Dennis of Ames, Gary (Linda) of Littleton, Colo., and Stephen C. (Nikki) of Sisters, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death of his wife, Virginia; two sons, Terry and David; granddaughter, Barb; one sister; and two half brothers.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was in charge of the arrangements.
