Alfred West

Alfred J. West, 76, died Saturday, March 7, 1981, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, from the Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Forbes in charge. Burial was at Center Cemetery, west of Story City.

Mr. West was born March 18, 1904, to Joseph and Isabelle (Sansgaard) West at Story City. He was married to Irene Nelson on Sept. 29, 1928, in Nevada. He farmed around the Roland and Story City area for many years and moved to Ames 22 years ago. He worked for the Department of Transportation and also the Ames school system.

Survivors include a son, Gene West, Ankeny; three daughters, Delores Kyle, Joyce Larson and Shirley Warren, all of Ames; two sisters, Gladys Handeland, Ames, and Mrs. Clarice Bickelhaupt, Story City; a brother, Floyd West, Story City; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1974; his parents; a brother and a sister.
