Carrie Teig

Carrie Louise Akre Teig was born August 25, 1931, to Lars and Johanna Hatteberg Akre near Newark, Ill. She was baptized by the Rev. Nils Klungtvedt at the West Lisbon Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools near Newark and graduated from Newark Community High School in 1949. She attended Roosevelt College in Chicago, Ill. and became a dental nurse, working in Ft. Dodge and Ames.

On February 10, 1951, she married Mervin J. Teig. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Jewell, 28 years, serving as Secretary of Education in 1977 she joined Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, where she was active in the ALCW and taught Sunday School. In 1986 she became a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City.

Carrie moved to Story City in November, 1981. She did volunteer work at Bethany Manor and the Story City Memorial Hospital. At the time of her death, she held a position in the Activities Department at Bethany Manor.

She died Friday morning, March 17, 1989 at the Story City Memorial Hospital at the age of 57.

A memorial service was held March 20, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Manor. Pastor Ron Feuerhak officiated, with a greeting by Pastor Enoch Hall. Several musical selections were sung by Janet Enderson, Myrle Shaw and Mary Navratil. Louise Olson was organist.

Funeral services were held t 1:30 p.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolfe Johnstad and Pastor Roger Schlaefer officiating. "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" was sung by the congregation. "Precious Lord/Amazing Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Pastor Johnstad and the Joy Trio. Barbara Doolittle served as organist.

Pallbearers were Bill Akre, Fred Akre, Reed Akre, Ron Akre, Craig Olson, Lyle Olson, Larry Teig and Martin Teig. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Mervin; four daughters, Nancy Johnson, JoAnn Gregg and Connie Rasmusson, all of Story City, and Donna Teig of Ames; three sons, DeWayne of Cass Lake, Minn., John of Story City, and James of Ames; three sisters, Gladys Jurney of Newark, Ill., and Grace Owenson and Myrtle Johnson of Story City; five brothers, Thor of Tampa, Fla., Ralph of Lisbon, Ill. and Louis, John and Lawrence, of Newark, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Orvin.
