Les Swenson

Lester A. Swenson, 80, Story City, died Monday, June 16, 1986, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 19, with the Rev. Stephen Anenson officiating.

Music was furnished by the Joy Trio and Harris Twedt, Jr. The grandchildren served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Lester was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Story City, to Ole and Laura (Osmundson) Swenson. On June 21, 1928, he married Alice Alsager. He owned and operated Swenson Hardware in Roland until 1952 and also the Swenson Thermogas in Roland until 1963. In 1979 he moved to Story City.

He was formerly the mayor of Roland and served on the school board in Roland for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; two daughters, Beverly Wiese of Cedar Rapids and Nancy Kilstofte of Story City; a son, David Swenson of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, William Swenson of Story City; five sisters, Agnes Ose, Esther Oss and Olive Erickson, all of Story City, Laurentia Keeley of Wofford Heights, Calif., and Orella Walker of Westminister, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary, three brothers and an infant sister.
