Truman Quam

Truman Quam was born Dec. 28, 1900, in Hamilton County, Iowa and died Aug. 4, 1986, at his home in rural Boone County.

Before joining Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City, Truman was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Jewell, where he was baptized and confirmed. On Dec. 28, 1930, Truman was united in marriage with Minnie Olson. Truman was a lifelong farmer in southern Hamilton and northern Boone counties. He loved music and sang in the Lake Center Octet for many years and later in the Story City Men's Chorus.

Truman is survived by his wife, Minnie; two sons, Gordon and his wife Laura of Boone, and Nolan of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Debra (Quam) Harris and her husband Joe of Port Washington, New York, and Dennis (Quam) and his wife Christine of rural Boone; two sisters, Clara Anderson of Eagle Grove and Stella Hendrickson of Stratford; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Sarah Quam; three brothers, James, Theodore, and Otis; and two sisters, Selma, who died in infancy, Selma Lilland.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 7, 1986 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1;30 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Anenson officiating, Janet Olson, organist, accompanied Delbert and Sue Ellen Quam as they sang "Because He Lives" and "My God and I." The congregation sang the hymn "Blest Be The Tie That Binds."

Casket bearers were nephews, Tenner Lilland, Luther Quam, Arden Quam, Arling Anderson, Sterling Anderson, Lauren Hendrickson and David Hendrickson.

Pastor Anenson conducted the burial service at the Story City Municipal Cemetery where Delbert Quam, a nephew, sang, "Den Store Hvide Flok."
