MRS. J. A. B. LARSON

Margit Hilda Larson, youngest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Claus Jacobsen, was born April 2, 1887 in Roland, and passed away at her home in Ames April 1, 1955 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Her mother passed away when she was two years old her father died when she was seven. The Bergen Lutheran congregation at Roland decided to place the orphaned children in homes of ministers and Margit was reared in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Jorgenson at Bode. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and grew to young womanhood under the care of the Jorgensons.

She attended Red Wing Seminary, Minn. After graduation, she returned to Roland and taught in the Norwegian parochial school there. She also taught school in Mason City, Guthrie Center and Story City.

Sept. 1, 1913 she was united in marriage to J. A. B. Larson of this place at Bode, Iowa. To this union one son, Cecil, was born. They made their home in Story City for about 25 years, where she was active in church and other civic affairs.

In 1929 they moved to Ames where she became employed by the Big Shoe store, becoming the manager of the store in 1944, a position she held until the time of her last illness. During the time she lived in Ames she took an active part in civic affairs, being a member of the Ames Woman's Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Soroptimists.

She retained her membership in St. Petri Lutheran church here.

Dec. 30, 1954 she became ill and after a lingering illness of three months, died at her home at 217 So. Hyland in Ames.

Mrs. Larson is survived by her husband J. A. B. Larson of Ames; her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Larson of Boone; two grandchildren, Jeanne and Philip; one brother, Alfred T. Jacobson of Leland; two sisters, Miss Agness Jacobsen of Long Island, N. Y., and Mrs. Hannah Rasmussen of Washington State, besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 5, with a prayer service at the Adams chapel, Ames, at 1 p.m. and at the Immanuel Lutheran church, Story City, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Fred Erickson of Bethesda Lutheran church, Ames, in charge. Rev. A. E. Nelson of Bergen church, of Roland, also spoke. Mrs. Robert Hermanson sang two songs, "Rock of Ages" and "Hark, Hark My Soul."

Pallbearers were I. G. Larson, Harold Skarshaug, Robert Arrasmith of Ames, Clifford E. Johnson of Roland, Tom Case, Boone, Herman Hanson of Stanhope.
