Arnold Jacobson

Arnold Harvey Jacobson was born at the rural Story City, Iowa home of his parents, Annas A. and Ragnhild Kriste Harvey Jacobson on July 4, 1914. He died on Thursday afternoon, May 1, 1986 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Arnold was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City. As a life-long member of St. Petri, he took an active interest in the work of the church, both here at home and throughout the world.

Arnold's education was in the Story City Public Schools. He operated the Jacobson family farm west of Story City for approximately 30 years. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames for 14 years and with his son, Paul at Jacobson's Gun Center in Story City from 1979 to the present.

On June 19, 1940, Arnold was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Horness, daughter of Magnus and Beulah Horness of Story City. Their wedding took place at the home of the bride's parents.

The Jacobsons were blessed with two children, Paul LeRoy Jacobson, Story City, and Katherine Diane Crosbie, San Diego, Calif. Their families include Paul's wife, Karen, and their son, Brian; and Katherine's husband, Dale, and their son, Scott.

Arnold is also survive by his mother, Bethany Manor, Story City; two sisters, Mrs. Haarry (Constance) Quail, San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. John (Ruth) Maness, Salinas, Calif., together with their families, numerous relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his father, and a foster brother, James Ewing.

Memorials may be given to the St. Petri Building Fund or the Bethany Manor Volunteer Fund.
