Ames man dies in Vietnam

Stephen Rushing, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Rushing, 304 16th St., was killed in action in Vietnam, July 30.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Stephens Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Rushing has lived in Ames for the past five years. He graduated from Ames High School and attending Iowa State University.

Survivors include his parents, a brother, Michael in the Navy stationed in Memphis, Tenn., and two sisters, Claudia and Rhonda, both at home.

A memorial fund has been established for the St. David's Worship Center. Gifts may be sent to St. John's By the Campus Episcopal Church, 2338 Lincoln Way.

Stephen Rushing rites are Monday

Funeral services for Sgt. Stephen A. Rushing will be Monday at 11 a.m. from St. John's By-the-Campus Episcopal Church with the Rev. Fr Ronald Whittmer officiating.

Sgt. Rushing was killed in action in Vietnam July 30.

He was born Nov. 26, 1949 in Gainesville, Fla. He attended schools in Winterhaven, Fla., Live Oak, Fla. and graduated from Ames High School in 1967.

While in Ames, Sgt. Rushing was on the track team, and the debate team at Ames High. He served as an acolyte at St. David's and St. John's Episcopal churches and as a Sunday school teacher at St. John's.

He attended Iowa State University for two and a half years and was a member of the Canterbury Club at the University.

He was inducted into the Army June 3, 1969 and sent to Vietnam May 13, 1970.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Rushing, 304 16th St., a brother, Michael in the Navy stationed in Memphis, Tenn., two sisters, Claudia and Rhonda, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus T. Peterson, Tampa, Fla., and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call at Stevens Memorial Chapel Sunday afternoon and evening.

Ames youth is 12th to die in V.N.

Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon B. Rushing of Ames have been notified by the government of the death of their son, Army Sgt. Stephen A. Rushing,20, on July 30 in Vietnam.

Sgt. Rushing was killed when his patrol was attacked.

The sergeant, a former Iowa State student, was stationed with the Fourth Infantry in Vietnam.

He was the twelfth Story County man to die in the fighting in Indo-China. Two other servicemen have died since the first Story County Vietnam Death March 20, 1966, but one was in a swimming accident and the other was in Wiesbaden, Germany, as the result of an accident.
