Slater man killed in Vietnam
A Slater Marine, Lt5. Philip B. Jones, 21, was reported killed in Vietnam action late this week.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones, Slater, he was starting his second tour of duty in Vietnam. The family was notified of the death. According to reports, he was killed Jan. 28.
He graduated from Ballard High School in 1965 and attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, before enlisting in the Marines in 1966.
The Jones have three other sons, one in the Army and two at home.

Philip Jones rites set
Funeral services for Marine Lt. Philip B. Jones 21, who died in Vietnam on Jan. 28 will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Lt. Jones had been in the Marines since July 8, 1966 and was a platoon leader with an amphibious force. He was wounded in his first tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was a 1965 graduate of Ballard High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, before enlisting in the Marines.
Survivors include his parents and three brothers, one in the army and two at home.
