THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, November 18, 2005.

Dona Jane Byrnes, 81, of Ames and formerly of Windsor Heights, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, following a lengthy illness. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation. A memorial graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.

Dona was born June 17, 1924, in Ames to Lester E. and Evelyn M. (Tripp) Sauvain. She was a 1942 graduate of Ames High School, and she attended Iowa State College from 1942-45. She married Raymond Byrnes in 1945 in Pratt, Kan. They lived in Jefferson for 15 years prior to moving to Des Moines in 1972. She was employed with the West Des Moines schools as a secretary for the business manager for 14 years until she retired in 1986. They made their home in Windsor Heights until October 2005, when they moved to Bickford Cottage in Ames.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Raymond Byrnes of Ames; and two sons, Matthew J. Byrnes and his wife, Susan, of Johnston and Timothy J. Byrnes and his wife, Jan, of Windsor Heights.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorials be made in her name to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.
