THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, November 18, 2005.

George F. Sisson, 72, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Pardee Hospital.

A private graveside service will be Saturday, Nov. 19, at Indian Mound Cemetery in Humboldt. A reception will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Mason Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with pastor Bob Edwards officiating.

He was a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., and lived in Ames until moving to Hendersonville, N.C., in 1998. He was the son of the late George Franklin Sisson and Violet Buls Sisson. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 40 years before he retired in 1998. He was a member of the Four Seasons Rotary Club, and National Society of Professional Engineers, life member of the American Civil Engineers; member of Iowa Engineering Society, Iowa State University Alumni Association, and American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials; and chairman and member of Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (Green Book) for 10 years. He worked with the Iowa State University civil engineering department recommending core course requirements. He was a life member and a volunteer with Friends of the Henderson County Library and Lutheridge Church Camp. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames where he served as president of the church council. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, serving in various capacities on the church council. He loved gardening, golf and Yankees baseball.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Norma A. Sisson; one daughter, Georgianne Sisson of Mission, Kan.; one son, Geoffrey Sisson of Chicago; two brothers-in-law, Roger Day and his wife, Donna, of Humboldt and Keith Day and his wife, Ruth, of Las Vegas; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Pierce and her husband, John, of Webster, Fla.
