FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ANDREW HOUGEN

Funeral services for Andrew Hougen, who died at the home of his daughter in Northfield, Minn., on Thursday, Nov. 20, were held from the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg. Two solos were sung by Miss Lillian Alsager, "At the End of the Road" and "In Heaven Above." Interment was at McCallsburg cemetery.

Many expressions of sympathy were given in memory of Mr. Hougen to foreign missions and there were also beautiful floral offerings. Relatives from a distance attending were Mr. and Mrs. John H. Solberg of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Williams of Story City, Mrs. Swedelund of Stratford, besides relatives and friends from Boone, Roland, Story City, Ames and Northfield, Minn.

Obituary

Andrew Hougen, son of Jens and Christine Hougen (both deceased) was born July 23rd, 1873, in Benton county, near Norway, Ia., and passed away Thursday, Nov. 20 at Northfield, Minn., at the age of 68 years and 4 months.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Benton Lutheran church near Norway. On Oct. 12, 1898 he was married to Julia Tvedt and to this union two daughters were born.

He was in the general merchandise business for about 40 years. They resided in Norway, Iowa until 1910, when they moved to McCallsburg, where they resided until 1929 at which time they moved to Ames.

He had been an invalid for the past several years, suffering from a complication of several diseases. His wife died on July 20, 1940, after which time he had been cared for by his daughters.

He is survived by his two daughters: Alta, Mrs. Wiliam Trygstad of Northfield, Minn. and Harriet, Mrs. C. E. Baumgardner of McCallsburg; three brothers, Ole of McCallsburg, John of Story City, Julius of Ames, and four sisters, Mrs. Marie Mathiason of Perly, Minn., Anna Hougen of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. Caroline Dahl and Martha Hougen of Vinton, Iowa, and five grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and friends. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
