Obituary
Karen Sophia Nelson, youngest child of Karl and Maren Nelson, was born near Nestved, Denmark, December 27, 1867, and died July 9, 1941, having passed her 73rd birthday last December. She was the las of her family--her parents, two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
At the age of 19 she came to America and made her home for a time with the Peter Johnson family near Little Wall lake, northwest of Randall, Ia. Her brother was the only other member of her family who came to America.
With the exception of several months spent at Carroll, she lived the entire period, since leaving Denmark, near Story City and Randall.
On January 8, 1890, she was united in marriage to Anders J. Anderson, near Randall, and moved to the Anderson homestead, southwest of Story City, where she spent the rest of her life (over 51 years.) To this union one son was born.
At the age 14 she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Toksvad, Denmark. With her husband she united with the Grace Evangelical church at Story City in 1916, where she was a regular attendant until about a year ago, when she was stricken with a very painful heart ailment. For the last six months she was confined to her bed most of the time.
On August 20, 1921, her husband preceded her in death, and few months later death again entered the family circle and she was called upon to mother the two grandsons, who were left motherless at an early age.
Left to mourn their loss are her son, John L. Anderson, two grandsons, Arnold and Vernon Anderson, three nieces who live in Denmark, her husband's relatives and many friends.
