THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 29, 2005.
Gary L. Purvis, 71, of Kimberling City, Mo., passed away Tuesday evening at his son's home. There are no services planned at this time. The body has been cremated under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson, Mo.
Gary was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Ames to Gary Leon Purvis and Mabel (Tyler) Purvis. He was blessed with two children during his lifetime. Gary was a Baptist minister and a stone mason. He worked on residential and some commercial, and was well known for his mason work in Iowa and Missouri. Gary had lived with his son a short time, moving down from Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gary Leon and Mable Purvis.
Gary is survived by his two children, Rusty and Cheryl Purvis; two brothers, Lowell Purvis of Maitland, Fla., and Jerry Purvis of Dunlap, Tenn.; three sisters, Sheila Purvis, Colleen Purvis, and Romano Purvis, all of Highland, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
