NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 27, 2005.

Norman Lyon, 63, of Boone, Iowa, found peace and headed for a higher ground on Monday, October 24th, after a short, but determined struggle with Leukemia. On his final journey, he was surrounded by family and friends who never left his side.

He was born in Cambridge, Iowa on July 9th, 1942 to Eldon and Hazel Lyon. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1960 and started to work at the National Animal Disease Laboratory in 1961 where he worked, except for a "sabbatical" to Arkansas for 2 years, until retirement in Aug. 2001.

He was Chairman of the Boone Democratic Party until his illness and enjoyed raising cattle, mules and driving his ponies. His six grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he was the world's best papa.

His favorite hobby was to sit and visit with anyone he met and his joy and humor were a gift to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Becky and his three daughters, Lynette Peterson and husband Bob of Jefferson, Louise Onken and husband Jeff of Boone, Melissa Jacobson of Boone; grandchildren Hannah, Chance and Victoria Peterson, Emily, Nathan and Carrie Jacobson; his sister, JoAnn Sargent and husband Richard of Payson, Arizona, many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, October 27th at 1 p.m. at Camp Hantesa in Boone with refreshments following. Interment will be held at Mineral Ridge Cemetery at Ridgeport, north of Boone.

Donations may be made to the Iowa Arboretum in memory of Norm Lyon.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of funeral arrangements.
