JOHN SNEDDEN

John Snedden was born at Lanarkshire, Scotland, June 24, 1842, and died July 25, 1913. He came to America as a young man, locating at Boone, where he was married to Isabel Orr. To them were born five daughters and two sons. Mr. Snedden was a man of sterling character, possessing all those splendid qualities for which his nationality are noted, and having become a Christian in youth, he was noted for a life of most perfect faithfulness to the Master. In this country he early affiliated with the Methodist Church, but after moving to the Zenorville neighborhood he united with the Evangelical Association there, and remained until death a most faithful and consistent member, always foremost in everything that pertained to the advancement of his Master's kingdom.

Mr. Snedden has been a patient sufferer for many years, so that death was not an unwelcome visitor to him. A weak leg, an asthmatic affection and heart trouble, caused him much pain, which he always bore with great fortitude and with the sweet Christian spirit which characterized him in all things.

He was in about his "usual health," having been able to attend church almost to the end, which came Friday morning, July 25, when he was 71 years and 1 month old. He conducted family worship as usual, and when retiring said to his good wife, "I don't know that I shall be with you in the morning, but I just leave myself in the hands of the Lord." He fell asleep never to waken again in Time. In the morning he awoke in the presence of the Redeemer whom he loved so well. A moment before he was sleeping as peacefully as might be, and then with only a gasp and a gurgle his soul went out to be with the redeemed.

His is the first death in his family. Mrs. Snedden and the children, who are grown to manhood and womanhood, have the sincere sympathy of an especially large circle of friends at Zenorville and Boone. The funeral was held at the home on Saturday, the pastor being assisted by Rev. D. J. McKay of the M. E. church at Ogden, who was a former pastor and countryman.

The body was laid to rest in the beautiful Boone cemetery to await the dawn of the first resurrection morn. His splendid Christian life will long be cherished as worthy of emulation by all who knew him. His loved ones can look forward with perfect faith to a happy reunion around God's Throne.

L. J. U. Smay, Pastor.
