HAZEL LORRAINE WILLIAMS, NEVADA
Hazel Lorraine (Hall) Williams, 96, of Nevada, departed this life on Thursday, December 30 at the Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with Deacon Brenda Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.
Hazel, daughter of Leroy and Bertha (Glasgow) Hall was born in Carter, Oklahoma on April 26, 1908. On June 27, 1925 she was married to Irven Walter Williams in the minister's home in Des Moines. She lived most of her life in Story County, Iowa with the exception of the time in Carter, Oklahoma.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Williams. Surviving are one son, Donald (Ruth) Williams of Maxwell; three daughters, Beverly (Larry) Johnson of Roland, Cheryl Metcalf of Loveland, Colorado and Pam (John) Whisenant of Marshall, Texas; seven grandchildren and 17 great grand children.
Those that passed are her husband Irven Walter Williams on February 14, 1987, a son Wendall W. Williams on September 19, 1977, a daughter Carolyn J. Williams on November 4, 1997 and a grandson Kim R. Williams on March 31, 1977. Also three brothers, Leon, Harold and Forrest Hall and 5 sisters, Irene Hall Allen, Doris Hall Weeks, Helen Hall Spooner, Margaret Hall Landsdowne, and Kathryn Hall Mitchell. Her mother passed on February 15, 1957 and her father on March 3, 1958.
She was a life-long resident of Story County. She was a member of the O.D.O. Club and the Methodist E.U.B Church. She was a loving-kind person who loved life. She loved her family-home - her community and the town of Nevada. She loved traveling to her family in other states. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and especially pies for the Story County 4-H fair. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, sewing, making quilts and also working in her garden and tending her flowers. Besides being a homemaker, she worked at the Story County Hospital and the R.H. Donnelley's Corporation. She worked at Ambrose Clothing Store in Nevada for 13 1/2 years.
Her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews loved coming to her home and visit. The coffee was always on. Hazel outlived all of her brothers and sisters and in-laws on both sides of the family.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 2 after 12 p.m., with the family present from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Mortuary.
