DEATH COMES TO ANOTHER PIONEER

John Nelson Heeds Last Call Saturday After Long Illness

John Nelson, who for over fifty years has been a resident of this community, was called by death at his home in Story City last Saturday. While he had been in failing health for several years his last illness was of but two weeks duration.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Grace church, with a large number of old friends present to pay their last respects to the departed.

Obituary

John Nelson was born at Sjelland, Denmark, on February 26, 1845, and departed this life at Story City, Iowa, on November 10, 1928; age 83 years, 8 months and 15 days.

In 1869 he came to America making his home at Marshalltown, Iowa. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Karen Marie Nelson and they settled on a farm 5 miles northwest of Story City, where they resided until 1911, when they retired from farm life and moved into Story City, making their home here until now it is broken by death.

To this union were born six children, one of whom preceded the father in death, Mrs. Katie A. Peterson, Chris, Peter and Walter of Story City, and Mrs. Sena Jensen of Marshalltown. He is also survived by his aged wife and one brother, Peter Nelson of Willow Brook, Cal. There are 17 grandchildren.

Mr. Nelson was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church as a child before coming to America. He has been an invalid for the last 4 years.

Interment was made at the beautiful Fairview cemetery at Story City on Nov. 14, the services being in charge of the Grace church pastor, Rev. C. L. Fuller.

The pallbearers were: Andrew Hanson, J. C. Johnson, Chas. Reischauer, Frank Heers, Martin Jensen and Fred Ahrens.
