MRS. McCONNELL WAS NATIVE OF THIS STATE
Maggie Edith Summers was born in Des Moines August 26, 1852, and died in Story City February 19, 1931, aged 78 years, 5 months and 24 days.
She was united in marriage to Orlando James McConnell at St. Catharine, Mo., on March 11, 1869. To this union were born six children: three sons and three daughters. Two of the sons, James and Peter, preceded the mother in death, and after 59 years of married life she was also bereaved of her husband August 6, 1928.
The McConnells moved to Marquette, Ill., in 1899, and from there to Story City in 1915.
Those left to mourn her death are Mrs. Lou Reubesan of Glen Ferry, Idaho; S. W. McConnell of Des Moines; Mrs. C. E. Knoke of Chicago; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and other friends and relatives.
Mrs. McConnell joined the Christian church at Marceline, Mo., in 1898, and later, under the pastorate of Rev. L. F. Smith, was transferred to the Grace Evangelical church of Story City, of which church she remained a member until her death.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, first at the C. R. Knoke home and then in the Grace church, Rev. Fuller officiating. The pall bearers were: Martin Jensen, Halver Knutson, John Heggen, Serral Munsen, F. A. Fuller and John S. Johnson. A quartet consisting of Mrs. Stanton James, Luella Paulson, Elaine Spencer and Ruth Fuller sang several songs, with Margaret Fuller at the piano.
Among those from a distance at the funeral were the following: Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Knight of Norwalk, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Knight and children and Mr. and Mrs. William McConnell of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Linder of Ames and Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Okland of Randall.
